Detox Your Mind Body and Soul

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , , , , , , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 2:32 pm

Do you want to achieve balance and lose weight in less than one week? Read on for tips how…

Last week I felt irritable, frustrated, angry and tired. I looked at my diet and lifestyle, and realized I had been ordering a lot of takeout, working long hours, I got away from my regular workout routine and I hadn’t brushed my teeth in over 2 days, (yikes, don’t tell my dentist). I somehow thought that my health could maintain balance until I crashed from exhaustion and lack of self-care. I quickly put myself on a 7-day detox plan to reshape, reenergize and refocus myself. However, my plan isn’t like all the green juice detoxes you may have tried (although I did juice) I decided that in order to have real change, I need to do a detox to make over my body, mind and spirit!

After just 7 days, my skin is clearer, I sleep like a rock star at night, my relationships are more sincere, I am more productive at work and I have lost 5 lbs.

If you need a health jump-start consider this 7-day makeover plan:

Ditch Sugar

Sugar literally sucks the life out of us. The more we eat, the more we crave. I kicked all sugar to the curb, and would your believe I have more energy, I feel cleaner and I am less irritable. Instead of sugar filled coffee drinks and sweet snacks I switched to green tea and fruit. Yum.

Stop Grazing

I had no idea how much I was overeating until I looked at all my receipts from junk food and in between meal snacks. When I would get a frustrating phone call at work, I would turn to the fridge and pop something in my mouth. My emotional eating was hurting my health and waistline. This grazing can add up. I implemented a no graze rule. Which means I don’t put anything in my mouth from breakfast to lunch, lunch to dinner and between dinner and breakfast.

Drink Green Juice

We all no the power of juicing. Just do it you will feel like a million bucks.

Follow Your Heart

Here is where my detox gets a little more exciting. We all have things that we want to do. Bucket lists to conquer, people to meet, places to go. But many of us get zeroed in on priorities and we forget to follow our heart. When you listen to that inner voice inside of you it will never lead you astray. My heart told me to practice yoga more, and walk my dog longer. My heart said take bubble baths daily and read your favorite book again.

Brush Your Teeth

It is silly we need to put this on our list, but we found that people forget to brush their teeth when they get stressed out. Some even skip flossing and even worse people eat more sugar. Sugar foods can cause a major dent in your wallet with added dental bills. People who eat a lot of sugar often have more cavities and toothaches. If you are an adult and insecure about your teeth, your dentist or orthodontist can help create a treatment plan to help ease your worries.

Dr. Walle, a Periodontist in Klamath Falls, Oregonsays, “Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem.” Improving the health of your mind, body, and soul starts with self-care and a seven day detox.

Smile Through the Holidays – Easy Ways to Detox After Thanksgiving

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 4:38 pm

Holiday weight gain is one of the expected side effects of the season. One day a year, every year, Americans unit together to eat generous helpings of home cooked comfort food and give thanks for life and loved ones. But this year you can smile through the holidays with easy ways to detox after Thanksgiving.

The idea of joyfully stuffing our face with family has become a tradition that extends beyond the pilgrims. Thanksgiving is not a day for dieters. In fact it is one of the only days where it is okay to eat more and chuck guilt out the window.

The average American consumes over 3,000-3,5000 calories during the famous Thanksgiving meal. But the human body is comfortable on 1,000-2,000 calories a day. So when we gorge ourselves on heavy calories it tricks our brain into thinking we are still hungry. Therefore, we often eat more than our body is prepared to handle. Creating the infamous holiday weight gain.

When eating this excesive amount of food in one sitting the human stomach naturally expands. Do you ever notice how easy it is to go to the fridge and make a leftover turkey sandwich after the big feast, but your body has already consumed more than enough calories for one day. The holiday weight gain is a slippery slope, which starts with the instant gratification of eating as much as we can on Thanksgiving.

Trying to maintain a steady level of energy is the key to happy holidays. Sticking to a detox plan will help you stay balanced, stress free and eager to enjoy the holiday parties.

After the meal:

  • Brush your teeth –  Studies show that brushing your teeth after a meal will help you stay away from seconds. By giving your mouth the fresh clean feeling it signals to the brain you are done. And the natural sweetness of the toothpaste helps trick the body into curbing sweet cravings.
  • Drink your favorite tea – Ginger, peppermint and chamomile all help improve digestion. Sipping a warm beverage after the meal will ease the body and digestive track.
  • BFF nature – Go for a nature walk with the family after or before you eat your meal. Getting out and enjoying the beautiful day is an easy way to keep the calorie count on the down low.

The next day:

• Move it to lose it – Black Friday is famous for shopping and fighting the crowds. This year try fighting the bulge with movement for the body. The day after Thanksgiving is a day to focus on deals and savings. So start your day right by making a deal with yourself, and put exercise as your number one priority.

• Eat less play more Sticking to a 1,500-1,800 calorie diet the following week after Thanksgiving will help you maintain your current weight. So watch what you eat and get out to play more. Rather than going to the fridge to pick at left over’s pick up toys and play with your children or pets.

• Avoid alcohol and sugary sweets – For the week or two after Thanksgiving consider reducing or eliminating your use of alcohol and sweets. This will help you feel more natural energy and keep the cravings far away. Plus eating too much sugar and alcohol can cause damage to your beautiful smile. Keep smiling through the holiday with a balanced diet and healthy attitude.
