  1. Dark greens - We love the leafy vegetables, and so does your hair. Fruits and veggies are one of the best things you can add into your diet for overall great health. This includes the health of your hair. Leafy green vegetables, think spinach and broccoli, yum, are an excellent source of vitamins and they provide you with iron and calcium.
  2. Fruits - Fruits that are high in vitamin C and A are super power for your hair. They help your body to produce sebum. (Sebum is an oily substance in your hair follicles that acts as a natural conditioner.) Strawberries, oranges and grapefruits are the best vitamin booster fruits for hair.
Imagine that, eating strawberries for shinny hair.
  3. Omega-3 fatty acids - Foods with omega-3 fatty acids are a jammed packed powerhouses, when it comes to giving your entire body a good glow. Our favorite, flaxseeds and walnuts, super yum. To add some serious super shine to your hair, choose fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines, and herring to amp up your omega intake as well.

  4. Nuts - Your hair will go nutty over nuts. Think of the hearty big nuts, like the Brazil nuts, which are one of the best sources of selenium. These Nuts have minerals that keep your scalp and hair healthy. Walnuts, cashews, pecans, and almonds are great for your layers as well. Munch on these for an afternoon snack, and watch your hair go nutty.
  5. Whole grains - Get a daily dose of zinc and iron with hearty whole grain. Whole wheat bread is healthy; also fortified cereals can give your body B vitamins, which will promote happy strands by boosting your red blood cell count.
  6. Low fat dairy - Calcium is an important mineral for hair growth and it is in low fat dairy products. Chose something like skim milk and yogurt. Kick your calcium and vitamin C levels up a notch by mixing fresh cut strawberries into a cup of Greek yogurt.
Your hair will shine. Calcium is also good for your bones. Doctor Randy Morgan a dentist in Newberg Oregon suggests that you get a daily dose of calcium for optimal health. Calcium can improve our bones and teeth.

Tips for a More Beautiful Smile

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 8:44 pm

The first thing you notice about someone when you first meet is usually his or her smile. People who smile more are usually happier and more approachable then people who frown. We asked experts what makes a great smile. The results are in and here is the best doctor and dentist advice to help you feel good from the inside out. Your mouth, teeth and lips are what people look at when you talk. It is important to feel confident about your entire look. There are easy ways to feel good about your smile. Here is are favorite.

BFF Your Dentist

Visit your dentist at least twice a year. Your dentist is your best friend when it comes to preventing a pretty smile going south. They can identify any problems with your teeth or gums long before a problem really occurs.

Brush Your Teeth

Brush your teeth not just when you wake up and go to bed, but after each meal. Studies show that people who brushed their teeth after each meal had better smiles and less dental bills than those who brushed once or twice a day. Brushing your teeth removes plaque and food particles that can build up on your teeth. You want pretty shiny white teeth; use your brush to keep it that way. Replace your toothbrush with a new one every 3 to 4 months.

Brighten Up

People who smile often are seen as being more intelligent, sincere, trustworthy and self-assured than those who don’t, according to the “American Journal of Psychology.” So why not smile more and flash your pretty whites. If you want to improve your smile consider going brighter. At home whitening kits are affordable and dentist approved. To get your teeth ready for attention, try some at home whitening strips (we love Crest Whitestrips Daily Multicare, $34.50.)

Eat Crunchy Yummy Foods

Yep you read that right, eating crunchy foods (carrots, celery, lettuce, apples) at work or on the go can help you have a healthier smile — they displace plaque and debris from the mouth, keeping any embarrassing food out of your teeth. So you will feel good on the inside out. We gathered this expert advice from Doctor Jack D. Jorgensen, DMD at Advanced Dental Concepts,  a General Dentist in Vancouver, Washington.
