Heavy Metal your Beauty Routine

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 8:20 pm

Heavy metal is not just for guitar crashing rock music junkies.

It seems as if it is the latest beauty craze.

Research shows that metal laced ingredients like copper and silver can boost your skin completion.

Foundations, blush and nail polish companies are embracing the new look using all of the elements. Using ingredients like sulfate can help pull out natural silver ions, a natural antiseptic, which will pump up your skin’s healing process. Many beauty products are using metal, like silver, because its natural probiotics can help fight acne-causing bacteria.

Say hello silver inspired glowing skin and goodbye to red pimples. The silver can help the skin with a unique oil control complex that will leave the face healthy and glowing.

Another metal beauty experts are adding into their daily regimen: Copper.

Copper can stimulate elastin—the cross-hatched fibers that give skin its healthy structure. This means that the more elastin you have in your skin, the less fine lines and wrinkles you will have.

Copper can serve as an antioxidant as well, which will help protect the skin from stress, plus it can improve the skin’s complexion. Wrinkle reducing cream with Copper is a great product to look for healthy skin.

Colloidal Silver is a natural ingredient. Colloidal Silver mixes a silver and water solution that can naturally destroy any cell membrane caused by bacterial and fungal pathogens. It is often used in first aid kits.

Silver is an excellent source of healing properties. Many beauty companies and spas are looking at heavy metals and how they can help beatify your body and skin.

These days the question is not “Are you toxic?”, but “How toxic are you really?” Toxicity is a growing concern for many people, as more and more chemicals and toxins are used in beauty products and in foods, because it can increase the “convenience factor” of our daily lives.

How can you tell if you are harboring toxins in your body?  The answer toxins are an unavoidable part of modern day life, you can pretty much guarantee that you have toxins in you right now.

Lifestyle choices can increase your risk of building up toxins in the body. Eating fast food can add toxins to the body as well as eating a lot of processed foods from the grocery store.

Living in a big city can expose you to numerous environmental toxins that people who live in the country may not be exposed too. If you use medications or recreational drugs you are exposing your internal organs to a range of toxins that they may not be able to handle.

Even beauty remedies such as moisturizers, chemical peels, hair dyes and make-up can wreak havoc on your body by introducing excessive levels of toxins.

A metal fabrication Portland company rep says to be carful with precious metals and seek professional advice before putting any in or on your body.

How to Look Younger Fast

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 1:39 pm

Is there really such a thing as the fountain of youth? We believe so and it is found in your own local farmers market. Eating foods that come from the planet rather than created in a manufacturing plant are one of the best ways to stay young and healthy.

Eating a diet rich in natural unprocessed foods can reverse the aging process. Your body needs good nutrition and it can fight off radical damage to the skin. When you take care of your body, you will have more energy and create a lasting glow.

Of course getting enough sleep and taking care of yourself by moving and exercising daily will also help reverse the effects of aging, these tips will also help.

Drink a lot of water

Many people walk around and they are dehydrated without even knowing it. If you often feel headaches, or you’re tired or lethargic, these could be side effects of being dehydrated. The moment you wake up in the morning grab a glass of water and put some lemon in it. This will ramp up your digestive system, and it will also improve your concentration.

You can add flavors to your water such as cucumber, orange, lemon or even lavender flavor. The flavors will help you drink more water and you will feel less groggy.

Load up on antioxidants

Of course eating foods with antioxidants will help your body fight disease and it can reduce the aging process but what foods are best to eat? Inflammation can happen in your body and cause more wrinkles, the more antioxidants you eat the less you will age. Some of our favorite choices are blueberries, raspberry, nuts seeds, grapes and even dark chocolate.

Limit your sun exposure

Of course the vitamin D is very beneficial for your body but those sun bunnies that love the sun can get too much of it. Which can damage your skin. In fact if you don’t wear sunglasses or moisturizer with sunblock invest in them.

The toxic levels of too much vitamin D can damage your skin and possibly create skin cancer.

Detox

Doing a detox for your body can he help you fight the aging process. People who detox regularly often feel better in their skin and they are healthier. Some celebrities will be detox to the extreme by drinking only green juice for 5 to 7 days every month this is a great way to reset your body and focus on cleansing the internal body.

Toxins build up over time and it’s important to remove them and allow your body to do proper elimination. For example drinking water with lemon is an easy thing you can do immediately to cleanse your body.

Brush your teeth

many people don’t think about their smile when it comes to taking care of their health but when you brush your teeth regularly you prevent your chance of getting cavities, toothaches, migraines and other health problems.

Having a clean mouth is one of the best ways to be healthy and stay looking young.

Dr. Robert Thompson, a dentist in Hillsboro suggests visiting your dentist at least twice a year to keep your smile looking beautiful and young.

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , , , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 1:06 pm

We are obsessed with ginger right now.  From the holiday cookies to the gingerbread lattes, ginger is in our hearts and minds. But ginger is not just reserved for the cute little cookies at Christmas time. It packs a powerful punch and many Spas across the world are turning up the spice with the ginger nice.

Not only does ginger have amazing health benefits, but Spas are keen to the healing perks as well. Such as the Rockhouse Spa in Negril, Jamaica, which offers a unique treatment menu revolving around this magnificent ingredient. The Rockhouse Spa mimics the properties bohemian sheik vibe, ultra laid back and 100% Caribbean.

The staff is attentive and in tune with the demands of savvy spa goers. Including the ginger inspired developed aromatherapy massage and scrubs. Ginger is probably one of the world’s most popular medicines and cooking ingredients. A perennial herb that is native to China and India, ginger root has been used for centuries in Asian cooking and for its therapeutic properties.

Some of the natural benefits of adding more ginger in your life include:

Aids in Digestion – Ginger helps break down proteins to rid the stomach and intestines of gas. It also aids in the digestion of fatty foods and alleviates High Blood Pressure.  Ginger has a warming  quality, which improves and stimulates circulation and relaxes the muscles surrounding blood vessels, which facilitates the flow of blood throughout the body.

Treats Nausea and Morning Sickness – Ginger has been widely shown to prevent as well as treat motion sickness, relax the stomach and relieve the feeling of nausea. Many ginger candies are sold at airports and on cruise ships to help with travel induced motion sickness.

Lowers LDL Cholesterol – Studies prove that ginger can lower cholesterol levels by reducing cholesterol absorption in the blood and liver. Its extract can help reduce the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol in the body, reducing the risk of developing heart disease.

Improves Quality of Skin –  Spas are turning to Ginger in part because it can increase skin’s radiance and decrease inflammation that may contribute to conditions such as psoriasis and acne.  Ginger is an antioxidant, which means it naturally inhibits harmful free radicals that cause skin damage and aging.

Easy Ways to Exercise on the Fly

Filed under: Healing Lifestyles Blog — Tags: , , , , , , , — Healing Lifestyles & Spas Team @ 11:28 pm

Being a travel junkie makes it difficult to stay consistent with a regular fitness routine. Day one of my adventure has me whipped into mush from jet lag and time zone swaps. In order to make the most out of any trip, we leaned on author of  “20 Years Younger,” Bob Greene for the skinny on best ways to exercise on the fly.

He suggests packing a tennis ball. It is easy to carry-on and can double as a stress ball. By squeezing the ball just 15 times in each hand (3x) it helps to tone the biceps, forearms and shoulders. The isometric exercises cut down on the swelling and stiffness people feel after long flights.

Another easy fix is to check into a hotel with a fitness center, pool and spa. These amenities make maintaining your healthy regimen a blissful breeze.

I tested out the Round Hill Hotel and Villas fitness center in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Named among Top 10 Classic Hotels in the World by Worth Magazine in 2011.

Located in a beautifully restored 18th century plantation house on 10-acres of beachfront lawn with ocean views, the fitness center includes treadmills, step master a bicycle and free weights. After a power workout, I feel more balanced, clear and focused. Tomorrow a trip to the spa for the much anticipated Spirit Reviver Well-Being Massage.
