Lunafest
Proving that their commitment to women’s wellness extends beyond their nutritional snacks, the creators of Lunabar (a division of Cliff Bar) have also organized Lunafest, an annual film festival that winds its way across the country between the months of October and March. Showcasing short films by women selected from such prestigious film festivals as the London International Film Festival, the event supports the Breast Cancer Fund and local women’s organizations. “Women filmmakers and producers are such a minority within their field,” says Lunafest director Brooke Golden. “And women’s issues are underrepresented in the media. It’s our mission to draw attention to these issues, and, in the process, support women in the arts.” Fifteen percent of the proceeds go to the Breast Cancer Fund, while the remaining 85 percent benefit the local women’s organizations and/or college groups that host the festival. Hosts for the 2007 Lunafest in Boulder, Colorado, were yoga-inspired athletic apparel company Lululemon and Feeling Bold. Have something positive to say about being a woman?
