Whistler Wellness Week
Nestled in the mountains of British Columbia, Whistler is far more than a first rate skiing/snowboarding resort. At the first annual Whistler Wellness Week in late April and early May of 2006, the town proved that it’s also one of the world’s best year-round wellness destinations. Ideal for spa retreats, health and fitness vacations, or restful contemplation of pristine nature, Whistler offers myriad opportunities for enjoying health and well-being.
While breathing Whistler’s pure mountain air constitutes a 24-7 spa treatment, this hip and healthful community also boasts 18 spas (many of them full service), plus dozens of personal trainers, physical therapists, and licensed acupuncturists. Some of the most therapeutic spa treatments here happen to be bio-regional. For example, Canadian seaweed and Canadian Moor mud body treatments at Artesia Spa at the Hilton (www.artesiaspa.com/body.php) offer deep cleansing and circulation-stimulating benefits while enriching skin with organic minerals.
Bear in mind that just some of Whistler’s spring, summer, and fall fitness options include hiking, golf, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Access to mountain lakes and streams means that Whistler is ideal for fishing vacations as well. Those who are into mind/body fitness will also want to sample classes at Whistler’s four yoga studios. There are also several excellent massage therapists and meditation teachers practicing at Nibbana spa (www.nibbana.com) and other spas around town.
