Green Up Your Passover + Easter
Laurel House, QuickieChick Editor
The Passover Seder has historically focused on the liberation of Jewish people from Pharaoh. And Easter Eggs Were Died With Toxins.
Today, instead of solely focusing on liberation, Seder is opening up to address other crises - like global warming and the suffocating gases that are polluting this planet and out bodies.
Thanks to coal and oil “lords” and “dealers” (modern “pharaohs”) we have become addicted to fossil fuels.
Just like in biblical times, our waters are becoming undrinkable, bees (instead of locusts) are swarming and we are experiencing incomparable disasters.
As you dip your green mint and parsley sprigs into salt water this Passover, think of the protection of those and all other greens and the health of our oceans - yes, a Seder for the Earth!
As far as Easter goes, get out of the restraints of store-bought dyes and explore new hues that are Earth-friendly (and you probably already have many of the ingredients at home)! Easter is where you really get to liberate your natural selection and discover just how colorful (and staining) some of your favorite foods are!
For natural color ingredients ie: Red: Red Beet Juice (or smashed, strained fresh beet juice), Reddish Purple: Red Onion Skin (boil the onions in very little water, use the water to dye the eggs), Yellow: Turmeric Powder (1 ½ teaspoons) + ½ teaspoon vinegar + ½ cup boiling water, CHECK OUT OUR COLOR CHART TO SAFER EGG ADORNING USING YOUR FAVORITE FOODS!
