Can Yoga Really Wreck Your Body?

Runners get hurt. Bicyclists and golfers, too. And of course, football players, but yoga practitioners and yoginis?
From the article written last month in the New York Times, it appears that yogis are getting injured on the mat quite frequently.
While yoga injuries are relatively infrequent and generally minor, injuries occur in nearly any athletic or non-athletic endeavor. Trip while walking anyone?! Who hasn't?.
From inexperienced yoga teachers to our human tendency to test our limits, the truth is we can get hurt on the mat.
Yoga is meant to help reduce stress and provide relief in the midst of our busy lives, but having an injury can occur and limit you from experiencing the joy that yoga brings to your life.
Choosing a teacher that keeps you safe is key, but what else can you do to stay injury-free while on the mat?
