Friend a Friend of a Friend
Melissa Williams, RYT, Co-Owner Yoga Junction
Remember the BFF necklaces nearly every one of us sported, or wished to wear as children?
Even if you’ve retained your childhood or college best friends, chances are you don’t live close enough to actually see each other on a regular basis. It gets really tough to keep in touch.
To make matters worse, making friends gets more challenging as we age.
Not only are we less likely to meet new people, we are also less likely to try. Time, work, famiy ... we just are just not in as many social settings.
But don't get lazy when it comes to getting together with friends! Research shows that people who have strong connections are less likely to get sick and are generally happier, more optimistic individuals. A side benefit- meeting new people encourages us to learn new things and see the world from different vantage points- a major plus in our book.
So what can you do to restore that childhood joy of making new friends?
Start with the group of friends you have and put a regular date night on the schedule. Encourage everyone to bring someone new (or at least invite someone new). More connections will be made which will lead to a chain reaction of new friend groups!
