Natural cures

Continued from our Retreat & Renew Daily Tip.
Whether you’re under the weather or just in need of a serious mood change, these tips will help you survive the winter feeling your best, and actually looking forward to snow days. (Even if you’re not a snow bunny.)
Dry Skin? Go for omega-3s. While moisturizers will certainly help from the outside, amping up your fatty acid and healthy fats will help lubricate from the inside-out. Favorite choices include flax and fish oil. Other ways to increase your fat intake- add a bit more olive oil to your salad dressing or sprinkle your salad with an extra tablespoon of chopped nuts. Top your cereal with ground flax seed.
Moody Blues? Green Tea as well as foods rich in omega-3s will help with both depression and anxiety. Green tea also contains compounds that help with focus, a delightful side-effect when you’re feeling a bit weathered.
Stave off the Flu- Boost your immune system with elderberry and turmeric. Turmeric is found in most Indian cuisine, but you can easily add turmeric to such dishes as mashed potatoes and Lentil soup. Elderberry can be found in the natural food store in liquid and chewable form and is best taken before a cold has wiped you out.
