Open since September in Charleston’s French Quarter neighborhood, Gents is part barbershop, part day spa, and part private club. And though women are welcome, the menu of services, decor, and atmosphere are decidedly masculine. Here, you will find no willowy drapes, trickling water fountains, or new-agey music. Instead guests are welcomed with a choice of beverage from the bar, a sitting area decked out in Italian leather furniture, and a giant flat screen television regularly tuned to ESPN.
Inspired by the life and times of his grandfather (whose old photographs adorn the walls), proprietor John David Madison sensed a growing need for a stylish and approachable grooming ground for guys, and the barberspa was born. Offering haircuts, shaves, a facial, massage, manicures, and a pedicure as well as grooming services like shoe shines and custom tailoring, Gents is already attracting wedding parties, father and son duos, and local professionals.
Although the haircuts and shaves are proving to be the hottest menu items, Madison says his clients are warming up to the spa side of the menu. With affordable packages and membership options, Gents promises to keep Charleston men looking and feeling their finest.
Haircuts start at $14, shaves from $28, and packages begin at $60. For more information contact (843) 722-2233 or visit Gents Charleston
