California WellBeing Institute

The ‘Holistic Journey’ is a metaphor for what’s in store at the California WellBeing Institute (CWI) at the new Four Seasons Westlake Village, California. This signature treatment combines an aromatherapeutic sea salt exfoliation, a wildflower rain shower, an antioxidant-lotion body massage, a warm wrap, and a scalp and foot massage. An inspired menu and private pool at the large, lovely spa lure day and destination guests, but CWI can offer more: “It can be a fact-finding mission about yourself”, says General Manager Heidi Geier.

CWI pairs “the gold standard of diagnostic equipment” with lifestyle assessment. After considering your physical, mental, and emotional conditions and goals, ‘LifeAdvisors’ schooled in integrative medicine may suggest consulting physicians, a nutritionist, or an exercise physiologist, along with spa treatments and complementary approaches such as acupuncture and biofeedback. Medical professionals are on hand, but this is less a treatment facility than a place to take stock of where you are, then learn ‘the art of living well.’

LifeAware is a one-day ‘purposeful retreat’ organized by your personal LifeAdvisor, that includes nutrition, inner living, and fitness workshops as well as private consultations and a massage. LifeTaste is a half-day getaway with a dietitian’s input, and the two-hour LifeKitchen cooking class is led by a nutritionist chef. There are also comprehensive Executive Physical, and Ultimate Men’s and Women’s Health Packages. Three-day programs address longevity, women’s transition and empowerment, stress management, weight control, and rejuvenation, which includes DNA testing. Advanced dental and dermatology services are also available.

Experiencing the old world ambiance of Four Seasons Westlake Village with its massive waterfall, Thai river boulders, Chinese pagoda, flower-lined paths and gardens, indoor pool, and huge fitness center is rejuvenating in itself. Slabs of semiprecious stones are works of art in wall hangings, windows, and countertops. Executive chef Sandro Gamba makes healthy eating a gourmet experience throughout the hotel, including his chef’s table and in-room dining. Yamaguchi@Four Seasons features Feng Shui hair salon services.

This concept of luxury hotel, spa services, complementary therapies, and medical facilities for one-stop well-being is part of a greater holistic journey, too, as spa-going becomes a quality-of-life trend outside traditional destination spa venues. As they say at CWI, “Well-being doesn’t happen by chance, it happens by choice . . . Let the transformation begin.”
