Sarasota's Greener Pastures

Kanaya, a green condominium development in Sarasota, Florida, has raised the bar for natural, healthy living. Developer Harvey J. Kaltsas consulted Katrine T. Karley to insure that the entire building was constructed according to the principles of Feng Shui. In addition, Dr. Kaltsas has integrated Dr. Hilton Hotema’s seven pillars of health – good nutrition, clean air, pure water, clear light, proper exercise, adequate rest, and peace of mind – into the spirit of Kanaya. While Kaltsas does not impose a healthy diet upon Kanaya’s residents, the building’s amenities certainly inspire a natural and well-balanced lifestyle.

Clean Air – In addition to preserving most of the large trees on the building’s site and creating parks on the building’s east and west sides, Kanaya features humidistats, positive ventilation, and filtration systems to promote air quality. Kanaya also boasts fomaldehyde-free insulation and Benjamin Moore’s non-V.O.C. paints.

Pure Water – Efforts to supply pure water begin with the reverse osmosis water filtration systems Kanaya offers in all its homes. Kanaya’s 60-foot solar-heated lap pool is also purified without the use of chlorine.

Clear Light – The thoughtfully designed building not only boasts full-spectrum lighting, which provides all the wavelengths present in natural sunlight, in its common areas and parking levels, but will also feature infrared saunas, which are known to combat viruses.

Proper Exercise – In addition to the lap pool, the Kanaya building will have two workout rooms, one for Pilates and yoga, and the other for weights and cardiovascular training. Residents will not have an excuse for not exercising.

Adequate Rest – To minimize noise and insure that residents receive adequate rest, Kanaya has mandated such building requirements as laying cork under hardwood floors to minimize noise.

Peace of Mind – In addition to adhering to Feng Shui, Kanaya promotes peace of mind through its outdoor gardens and labyrinths as well as through its high-tech fire prevention and security systems.

Color Me Natural

Looking for an easy and eco-friendly alternative to plaster? Look no further than American Clay. Offering three finishes and a variety of colors, American Clay’s 100 percent natural product provides walls and ceilings with warm, rich hues. Croft Elsaesser developed American Clay’s Earth Plaster, as both a natural and superior alternative to traditional plaster. Although it is applied in a similar fashion, Earth Plaster offers a more consistent, non-dusting surface. American Clay’s plasters are also mold resistant, non-flammable, non-toxic, and free of VOC off-gassing during both application and use. Since it is a clay-based product, Earth Plasters also naturally control the room’s climate by regulating the humidity of the air. American Clay is not only an excellent choice for allergy suffers and environmentally conscious individuals, but for anyone looking to provide a great new look for their home’s interior.
