Spa Experience

By Debra K, Journey To Wellbeing
For three weeks I traveled and had opportunity to explore Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico, The Oaks at Ojai in Ojai, CA and Red Mountain Resort in Ivins, UT.
What I learned from my three-week jaunt:
I didn’t miss fat, salt or sugar – Seriously, I tasted some of the most fabulous foods ever and all were minimally prepared using fresh fruits and vegetables and lots of fresh herbs and spices. The lesson: use more fresh herbs instead of salts and artificial seasonings. Fresh herbs taste amazing and really minimize the need to add fake flavors. For salads add in some chopped cilantro and mint. This adds enough flavor you can just dress it with oil and a rice vinegar.
Less is enough – For part of my trip, I was on a 1200 calorie diet and felt completely satiated and full. The portions were very satisfying and the food tasted fabulous. The lesson: less really is ok. Try eating smaller meals and filling snacks more frequently. Not only will this balance your blood sugar levels but you will be less likely to eat large portions at meal times.
Heartburn went away – I suffer from heartburn pretty frequently and during my trip, I never had it one time. Food quality and portion size played a huge role in this. The lesson: My heartburn would stay away if I prepared foods like Destination Spas which means smaller portions, fresher ingredients and minimal additives. Keeping it simple, kept the burn away.
Exercise came easily – Not being the most active person, I was nervous about the prospect of exercising daily. I was amazed at how quickly my body adapted to about 3 hours of exercise every day. I participated in hiking, zumba, cardio boxing, yoga, pilates and stretching classes and my body started to change almost immediately. The lesson: Regardless of your current condition, your body welcomes and quickly responds to activity. If you have been inactive for a long time, start slowly with activities like walking and yoga.
My energy levels skyrocketed – I slept well and would awake early each morning with lots of energy and vibrancy. The lesson: making the effort to embrace a healthier lifestyle will help your body relax when it is time. Movement, proper nutrition and community support is a great way to ensure better rest and more energy.
