We publish a ton of awesome recipes that usually contain some sort of wheat rice or pasta component, but what we haven’t lauded lately is our obsession with tri-colored orzo, which you can buy in bulk on Amazon.com. Rice and orzo contain similar amounts of fat, sugar, carbohydrates and even sodium, so it’s not the health benefits that motivate us, though we do enjoy the complexities of the tri-color. Here’s why:
- Orzo, unlike rice, does not sop up all of the wonderful juices like rice does, so you can add it into a dish early on.
- Orzo is often a smoother, more buttery consistency than the starchiness of rice
- Orzo is a less overwhelming and filling substitution for other pastas such as linguine
- Orzo takes only about 10 minutes to cook
So next time you’re at supermarket, pick up some orzo and experiment a little! Here’s a great Grilled Sea Bass with Orzo Primavera and Saffron Broth recipe to try tonight!
