Yoga 2 Go

Your next yoga workout is just a click away. Web sites like Yogi2go, PumpOne, and YogaYak now make audio yoga workouts available for download directly onto your iPod or mp3-capable cell phone.

Yoga instructors use verbal cues to lead time-strapped yoginis through a variety of poses, and the workouts are customizable too, with sites like PumpOne and PodFitness creating a workout tailor-made for you. Either add background tunes from your own library of mp3 songs or assemble a workout based on personal fitness goals.

As for the cost, downloadable workouts are a bargain. iAmplify’s 90-minute “Vinyasa Yoga” class costs only $5.95, a third of the cost of most live classes. Plus, a downloadable class is playable an unlimited number of times.

If you still feel like you need to see a pose to do it properly, PumpOne takes your downloadable yoga workout one step further. “With the iPod being such a success,” says co-owner Declan Condron, “we thought the next step would be to combine podcasts with the visual side of training.” Each of PumpOne’s classes includes a digital slideshow playable on video-enabled devices like the video iPod.

Although downloadable classes can’t replace the real-life relationship between yoga student and teacher, Tracee Newell, co-owner of Yogi2Go, says their classes strive to capture that same intimacy. She recently had a client e-mail her while he was on safari with his girlfriend. “They just put in their headphones and did yoga in their tent.”
