Inspired by Dr. David Colbert’s book The High School Reunion Diet.

According to Dr. David Colbert, the founder of the New York Dermatology Group, many patients request cosmetic procedures in advance of school reunions. If your reunion is coming up, instead of heading for the quick, medical fix, try these simple steps to get your glow on. A few are more challenging, but we promise, they are worth it.

1. Eat fresh. Try to sweep your diet free of packaged foods. Aim for protein, good fats, and vegetables.

2. Start your day with yogurt. Yogurt (plain), offers a great balance of protein, fat, and calcium. Add berries and you’re more likely to feel full until lunch.

3. Add almonds to your diet. Almonds, as well as other nuts and olive oil, helps give the skin a healthy glow.

4. Cut back on sugar. Instead of going cold turkey, try to reduce the amount of sugar you eat. You’ll need to be a sleuth, so check labels. Sugar comes in dozens of forms and names.

5. Start your day with something you love. Even if it is just for 10 minutes. Meditate, garden, run, or walk. See if you can change your perspective and set the tone for your day. Ultimately, the reunion is about reconnecting with others. It isn’t meant to re-create the past, so why live in the past? Find something that keeps you present.. and keep moving.
