Deborah G. Musso, Founder of Sea Change Healing Center
In the midst of Manhattan, Sea Change Healing Center is an oasis of natural health care, with integrated wellness therapies that range from Network Spinal Care (NSA), Somato Respiratory Integration (SRI), naturopathic medicine, personal life coaching and massage therapy, to energetic bodywork and conscious movement. Founded in 1987 by Deborah G. Musso, DC, the center features a preventive health system called Vitalistic Healthcare. Its philosophy, says Musso, is based on cultivating the body’s own inherent healing power, with a focus on restoring and rejuvenating the mind, body and soul.
HL&S: With the arrival of Spring, many of us turn our attention to the subject of personal renewal. Your center’s programs include stress management, cleansing, and detoxification with a whole-person approach to wellness. What do you feel is the most valuable therapy we can add to our own personal health regimen to provide a true sense of revitalization?
Musso: My recommendation would be to add NSA and SRI. NSA utilizes precise, gentle touches to the spine that aid the brain in developing new coping strategies for adapting to the stresses of daily life. The specific exercises used in SRI are designed to allow us a greater depth of connection with our body’s natural energy and rhythms by realigning those rhythms through directed movement, touch, and breathwork. Both therapies have shown consistent and reproducible results over the years, and bring about an expansion of one’s own connection to Self. We’re all looking for a full happy life, NSA and SRI assist you in creating more resourcefulness by helping you reconnect to your body and releasing defense tension patterns that prevent a full expression of yourself, your health, and your life.
HL&S: In today’s world, the usual stresses have been greatly amplified by the climate of war, unrest, and ideological division. Given that mind, body, and spirit are inseparable, and that the health of one is entwined with the others, how might we go about renewing our mental and spiritual sense of well-being?
Musso: So many people today are daunted by events in the world that seem out of their control. This is why we are seeing so many panic attacks and so much depression. We may not be able to stop the wars and devastation, but we can change our own personal stories, how we perceive the world around us, and [how we]react to it. It is a sign of the times that we’ve been put into a place of fear and quiet complacency, but that is not our birthright. Our birthright is a full expression of our selves. So rather than being led to believe you are powerless, remember that you can change yourself. Move away from the stress physiology that keeps us locked in this place of fear. Most people are still asleep, allowing this to happen. Put your hands on your body, and find peace within. Educate yourself about your body’s inner healing and innate wisdom. Break the cycle, and you become part of the solution, instead of part of the problem.
