Saving without Sacrifice

You can have your cake and eat it too if you’re careful where your cake comes from. This statement applies not only to your diet but also to your pocketbook. If you learn how to shop wisely you can purchase the things you love without spending too much of your paycheck.
Save on prescriptions
Check your employee benefits to find out if your prescription drug plan has a mail-order option. These tend to reduce costs for anyone who has a regular daily medication, whether birth control or cholesterol meds. ALWAYS AS FOR GENERIC, no need to pay full price when you are getting the exact same product just without the name brand stamped on it.
Save on energy costs
You might have to pay up front, but it is worth it to get an energy audit. Right now national utility companies are offering a discount on the audits, too, so call and find out if your company is extending these benefits. There are home kits that can help detect leaks as well. While they won’t be as thorough as an audit they may help you find energy “suckers”.
Save on cleaning your home
If you are dreaming of a cleaning service, check with your neighbors to see if they are too. Oftentimes you can have one person service several homes for a discounted rate. Win!
Save at the grocery store
This is the toughest one by far. By far the biggest lesson is buy in bulk, but only the amount you can use or freeze. Beef and chicken in bulk can save you up to 50 percent. Buy frozen versus canned or fresh. Although fresh is best, frozen is your next best, preserving more nutrients and packing the most bang for the dime.
