Every once in a while one of those days comes along where things get out of hand quickly. Bad days are more than just waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Really bad days can put you into a state of depression, fear and constant anxiety.
If you have one thing after another happening in your day, you don’t have to have a bad day all day…these tips can pull you out of any funk.
Freak out
The first rule for having a bad day is to allow yourself to have a meltdown.
When we try to act as if everything is okay and things are taking care of, when there is really stuff that is hitting the fan, it’s better not to mask your feelings. Inevitably they will come out and it will be worse so having a freak out and meltdown moment is the first step to working through a bad day.
Accept Change
Recognize that everything is going to be okay. Life is one big constant change. People change, places change, and changing things is part of life. Things change all the time. We get into problems when we feel that change is not inevitable. Recognizing the change will happen and learning how to embrace yourself will help you through the bad moments. Understanding the big picture can help you feel more calm.
Take care of yourself
When we have bad days it’s easy to order takeout food, forget a work out or decide to stay in your sweats all day. The bottom line is you feel crappy but that doesn’t mean you have to look crappy or forget to take care of yourself.
Start with the little things. For example brush your hair and brush your teeth daily. Doctor Andrew Thompson at TenderCare Dental, a dentist in Northwest Portland suggests people drink extra water and avoid sugar and high fat foods. The better you can take care of yourself through the tough times the easier it will be to ride the wave of uncertainty. You’ll feel better as the day goes along if you take care of yourself and when you’re bad day is over your feel much better the days following.
Having a bad day doesn’t mean that you have to have a bad life. – Elvis Pressley says, “When things go wrong don’t go with them.”
