Cholesterol Facts vs. Myths

As far as heart disease goes, two researchers are claiming that the beef in the burger isn’t what’s causing your heart problems (although it may be linked to cancer…but that’s another story.) But, in fact ,what you need to be watching for is really our beloved sugar.

In Dr. Sinatra and Dr. Bowden’s, new book, “The Great Cholesterol Myth”, they claim that cholesterol numbers are irrelevant, that in fact, some individuals with high numbers are actually healthier and live longer than their “lower” counterparts.

But what you need to do is really learn how to keep your heart healthy. Dr. Bowden suggests that when thinking about how to keep your heart healthy think about eating low inflammatory foods (low sugars), getting exercise, getting some sunshine, having enough vitamin D, and managing your stress. And the thing to watch out for is sugar, which causes inflammation, increases plaque, and is directly linked to weight gain, diabetes, and now heart disease itself.

If heart disease is a worrisome concern for you, be sure to ask your doctor about the new LDL Particle Size Test. This new test measures the size of the LDL particles, which have direct impact as to whether they are bad or good for you.

Keep in mind that these doctors suggest that LDL itself is not bad, that it in fact it helps keep your brain young (and your sexual hormones at their peak), but that you do need to worry if the particles are too small.

Finally, the book also advises strongly against statins for women. In their reports, they suggest that statins in women have a correlation with an increase in diabetes, which has been proven to be a precursor to heart disease.

Let’s see what Dr. Oz has to say about cholesterol facts vs myths…
