Worrying about money can actually affect your mental health. The amount of time, effort, and energy we think about how much money we don’t have causes a great deal of stress and heartache and it doesn’t change the number in our bank accounts.
In fact 27% of digestive problems in your body are actually related to stress tied to money. 44% of people who have migraines are often linked to money stress. 23% of reported depression can be linked to actual money stress.
Money stress doesn’t just affect your mental well-being, it can affect your health and decrease the length of your life. Stress over money causes sleep loss, mental fatigue, appetite loss, and the loss of control over our emotions. The toll is high, and it’s a problem none of us can afford to ignore.
Identify the biggest problem
Perhaps there is one big bill that lurks over you, or that you can’t afford each month. Maybe you’re having a difficult time making ends meet but when you focus and get clear about the main money issue you have more clarity to move forward and take baby steps to resolve it.
Focus on the long run
People who worry and are fearful about money, often look at day to day problems, and get overwhelmed because they don’t know how they’re going to make ends meet. Instead you can create a plan and look at a long run, look at where you want to be in three years or five years, and how you want to live your life. By focusing on making more money and having a means to an end, will help you be able to feel more clear about the debt in the moment.
Autopilot your savings
Sometimes we worry because we don’t have enough in savings. Chances are when we’re stressed out with money we actually don’t put money aside which can stress us out even more. An easy way to get around this is to put money into savings automatically even if it’s just one dollar a month you will feel better that you’re contributing to that side of your savings.
We don’t pay for health
The majority of Americans who feel money stress don’t actually have healthcare, this means at the top of their list is poor health and fear of paying for it. The person could have a health problem, it could be a dental issues or actual pains in the body and they’re not taking care of them, this adds to the stress because of the fear of paying for it can actually hinder their own health.
Instead of worrying about your fear of money and paying for healthcare costs establish a plan go to a free clinic or take care of your health by simply signing up for a insurance plan that will help focus on your health and stress less.
