Napa Valley Goes Green

The founders of Auberge Resorts pulled out all the stops when developing the concept for their new resort venture, Solage Resorts, which opened its first property in Calistoga in 2007. For many, the question was whether Solage could contend with its sister properties in the area: Auberge du Soleil‚  and Calistoga Ranch. But Solage Calistoga has its own unique feel, carving its own path in wine country “think Napa Valley meets green living.Upon entering Solage Calistoga, you’ll be greeted by your bellman, who will unload your car and load up his bicycle with your suitcases. Part of Solage Calistoga’s mission was to create a resort that is not only luxurious but also sustainable; the cleaning ladies also use bicycles as well as Method products, a non-toxic line of cleaning solutions. The property features eighty-nine contemporary cottages, replete with natural furnishings, low-VOC paints, and views of the Palisades and Mayacamas Mountains. Beyond the rooms, you’ll be treated to a one-of-a-kind spa experience at Spa Solage featuring Kate Somerville facials (the spa guru of Hollywood stars), as well as the Bathhouse, which makes use of the natural geothermal springs found in the area. But these aren’t the mud treatments of yesteryear. In this modern twist on Calistoga’s mud bath tradition, you’ll not only choose your own customized mud mixed by a Mudtender (Mud Mojito anyone?), you’ll follow your mud treatment with a soak in a claw-foot bathtub. In between mud therapies, be sure to try one of the other spa experiences, such as the Mellow Me Out, which will take you from stressed to blissed in nothing short of 150 minutes.
