Nordic Walking

Not to be confused with the Silly Walking made famous by Monty Python‘s John Cleese, Nordic Walking is a popular form of fitness walking that employs the use of sticks, or Nordic walking poles, to increase calorie burn and provide an overall body workout. In her latest book, author Claire Walter has created a comprehensive manual for both novices and experienced walkers, calling on her own experiences as a dedicated Nordic walker to provide valuable insight and walking tips. The book is a goldmine of information on all things Nordic Walking-related, from background on the sport, to heart rate tables and warm-up advice, and thoroughly researched information on shoes, poles, pedometers, and related equipment. Easy-to-follow guides describe different strides and walking techniques. As a bonus, Walter has included information on walking groups, worldwide Nordic walking organizations, and walking vacations. Though I’ve been an avid Nordic Walker for several years, I still found this book to be hugely informative and helpful.
