June Jacobs and Rochelle Jacobs-Silpe

A successful working relationship and a shared passion for wellness help define the lives of June Jacobs the creator of June Jacobs Spa Collection, and her daughter, Rochelle Jacobs-Silpe. Both women embrace a holistic approach to wellness, as evidenced in their green products and business practices.

Your new line features green ingredients produced without animal testing. What prompted this decision, and what should consumers expect from these products?

June: I feel that it is important for us to connect with our consumers on a different level by sharing their values to protect the environment. There are also many factors that are driving the movement toward natural alternatives. Taking steps towards saving the environment is very important to me. All of my products are now green, meaning parabens have been removed from my formulas, and that we now use a preservative-free system. I also use natural aromatics in my products instead of artificial fragrances, and my packaging is eco-friendly.

How do you define beauty?

June: Beauty is being happy, and looking and feeling healthy. I often think that the major deterrent to becoming beautiful is the poor self-image that we might have of ourselves, and the fact that we compare ourselves to others for a definition of what beauty means. When we think of ourselves poorly, we tend to want to be somebody else and we look for a quick fix, whether it be a fad diet or plastic surgery. In reality, we have the capability within ourselves for better change. We are all beautiful, we just need to realize it. A simple step for looking one’s best is healthy skin.

June, has your definition of beauty changed since your daughter was born?

Before Rochelle came into my life, I used to be concerned about things that shouldn’t matter, like looking as young as possible, or as skinny as possible. But once I had a child, I realized that beauty is not about what you look like it’s about family, and there is nothing more beautiful than the bond between a mother and her child. I also raised Rochelle to understand that a positive body/self image is very important, and that beauty is in both the body and spirit. I am always telling Rochelle what a beautiful person she is, and I am so proud that she has become such a confident and beautiful woman, inside and out.

Rochelle, how has your own concept of balance and well-being been influenced by your mother?

Genetics is a funny thing. My mother can definitely influence me in some respects (and she has certainly tried hard in many) but at the end of the day, we are so similar in so many genetic ways that it blows my mind. Neither my mother nor I know the true definition of balance. There is no ‘stop’ button built into the Jacobs girls’ genes. We definitely pursue our dreams, and set goals that we strive to meet daily. Well-being is way up there in our goals, but the reality is we don’t make enough time. My favorite part about working with my mother is being able to do mom/daughter spa weekends, and personal appearances with the audience that we created our products for. It is very gratifying for both of us personally to see the difference we’ve made in people’s lives.
