Santa Fe “Bali Style

Absolute Nirvana Spa, Tea Room, and Gardens, inspired by owner Carolyn Lee’s visits to Bali, opened this past July in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The intimate spa features four luxury treatment rooms; the massage rooms come complete with granite tubs (and a tub for two for couples), steam showers, and fireplaces. Sample the spa’s signature treatment, the Javanese Lulur. Invented in 17th-century palaces for brides-to-be, this two-hour experience begins with a ritual foot scrub and jasmine oil massage. Afterward, your body is painted in Javanese lulur “a blend of turmeric, sandalwood, cinnamon, and rice powder “designed to exfoliate your skin. Your ritual continues with an application of yogurt and honey, a steam (to allow the yogurt to restore the skin’s pH balance), a rose-petal bath soak, and a cup of hot Javanese ginger tea. In addition to this decadent ritual, the spa also offers facials as well as therapeutic, Thai, and hot stone massage. Be sure to visit the tea room, which features more than fifty teas as well as fresh teacakes and scones. Can you say bliss?
