According to a recent report from Prevention.com, which utilized data from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, these cities may do a dinger on your ticker:
- Detroit, MI. Detroits tips the scales with 33 percent of the population obese, and the highest heart disease rate in America.
- Fort Wayne, IN. Again, this one tips the scales for heart disease and obesity, although reports say that residents in Fort Wayne are happier than the national average.
- Lubbock, TX. 32% of Lubbock residents are obese. Texas fare?
- New Orleans, LA. Again, cuisine may be to blame here. But in the Prevention report, they also note that 25% of the city is parkland, so there are ample opportunities for exercise.
- Dallas, TX. Sorry Texans, but you’re topping out the poll. The report notes that Dallas residents less frequently commute by bike or foot than the national average.
- Baton Rouge, LA. A lack of exercise is to blame for the obesity rates in Baton Rouge.
- Tulsa, OK. This city isn’t as walkable as other pedestrian-oriented communities, making obesity a bigger problem.
- Louisville, KY. Wowsa. Louisville, Kentucky, has more McDonald’s per capita than any other city in the country!
