It might have been while I was barrelling down the slide into the swimming pool for the second time that I realized I was having a really, really good time at North Lake Tahoe’s Resort at Squaw Creek. Lucky for me, this wasn’t the first time the thought occurred to me during my visit and it wouldn’t be the last.

Situated in the heart of Squaw Valley and famous for it’s winter skiing scene, The Resort at Squaw Creek offers an abundance of world class summer fun, including golfing, fishing, swimming, boating and spa-ing.

Like a mini-village, the resort has a little something for everyone, with multiple dining options ranging from casual to fine dining, a selection of retail shops and a full roster of both indoor and outdoor activities.

After arriving mid-day and enjoying some time at the impressive pool area, (featuring a waterfall, two large swimming pools, three hot tubs and water slide), I meandered over to the Spa at Squaw Creek. My scheduled Coconut and Honey Body Treatment sounded like the perfect way to unwind after a four hour drive from the bay area. Following a steam and shower, I relaxed for a bit in the spa’s “Sanctuary” room, enjoying a selection of magazines while resting on a comfortable lounge chair. My practitioner Zoe carefully explained the treatment before scrubbing me down with an all natural coconut sugar scrub, followed by a honey mixture that left my skin silky smooth. Zoe gave me a fabulous massage that worked out all my post-drive kinks and left me ready to enjoy the evening fun at the resort.
Sunset on the deck at Sandy’s Pub with a glass of champagne in hand and a calamari starter turned out to be the perfect way to end the night, as my date and I enjoyed watching resort visitors make s’mores around the pub’s fire pit. After a short walk around the resort grounds we walked back to our comfortable room for dessert: a delicious room service cheese plate, which featured an array of gourmet cheese, crackers, dried fruits and candied walnuts.

If you go, plan on a multi-day visit, as there are so many fun activity opportunities available it can be hard to fit everything in on an overnight visit. From the nearby north shore of the lake, to the resort itself, world class recreation is in abundance, just waiting to be enjoyed.
