The Beach House at Hermosa Beach, California: There’s a special pocket in southern California that beams bright smiles along with affluent beachgoers.
Hermosa Beach is a sophisticated hot spot nestled between Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. It’s a true surfers’ paradise, but there is more to do than ride the waves. I spent three days in this sweet little corner of California and had a blissed out wellness weekend.
I stayed at The Beach House Hotel right on Hermosa Beach. This oceanfront, boutique hotel is smack dab on the 22-mile paved bike trail and only a two-minute walk from the Hermosa Beach Pier. I arrived after a short drive from the Los Angeles International Airport, only six miles away.

The lobby is welcoming with expansive natural light shining inside, reflecting off of the ice-cold lemon water for guest to sip and savor. The staff is respectful; they show me to my room.
My partial ocean-view studio suite has a living room area with a beautiful fireplace and balcony and an inviting king-size bed with a queen sleeper sofa in the living room area. The room has two flat-screen televisions, Bluray DVD/CD player, iPod connectivity, complimentary wireless Internet access, down comforters and pillows, cozy robes, refrigerator, and a working desk. The bathroom includes thoughtful Aveda amenities and a separate soaking tub and shower.
Each of the 96 studio suites in the oceanfront luxury boutique hotel is designed to take advantage of the beautiful Pacific Ocean views from both the living room and bedroom areas. Amenities include free continental breakfast served in a breezy dining room, a fitness center, a hot tub, and a spa treatment room.

I decide to use my hotel coupon and save on bike rentals. I rent a cruiser bike from Hermosa Cyclery directly across from the hotel and head out for an afternoon ride. Roller bladers skate by me with smiles and trendy sunglasses. Surfers rest on the beach before hitting the waves again. I hear thumps of volleyballs bouncing over the net from the beach volleyball players. Paradise is in Southern California, right here, right now.
The path is safe, wide, and open to the public—a perfect afternoon activity and the best way to take in the local scene.
After my afternoon bike ride I head into the hotel to clean up for my spa treatment. I first go to the fitness room to soak in the whirlpool so I can wind down. As I enter the spa treatment room, my therapist smiles and welcomes me with a grateful greeting. She explains the treatment process, telling me this is my time. “I am here for you.” It’s nice to be pampered and relax fully into the moment. I do the 60-minute Be Well Massage with aromatherapy and herbal foot care. My body is relaxed; all is well at The Beach House Hotel.

therapist says she loves what she does, and I can tell. My body is grateful for her gentle healing touch. Ultimately it all comes back to touch, and The Beach House focuses on the details with an elegant touch. Here you feel safe, loved, and cared for.
All is well at The Beach House on Hermosa Beach.
