Don’t let a bike intimidate you. It intimidated me at first – swerving through traffic and riding up hills on a regular basis didn’t really sound like fun – even though I knew it was a great way to get outside and feel the breeze, get my heart rate up, and bond with my husband and father (both cyclists). I also decided I wanted to lower my carbon footprint by taking the bike to the supermarket instead of my car, for example. And I’ve always loved to rent a bike as a way to see a new city or place. What I decided was that I needed a good, solid entry level bike to make cycling a part of my everyday routine. But I also didn’t want to spend $1000 on a starter bike.
So I found a great hybrid starter bike – the Schwinn Searcher – and it’s so pretty too! This bike is a hybrid, meaning you can ride it on the road and in light gravel without having to change tires. I’ve had it for about a week and it’s fantastic. I even got a speedometer, matching helmet and panniers to store goods in.
You can find this bike online or at many bike shops. It’s also pretty comfortable and is easy to adjust with a wide range of gears. The bike runs from $400 to $600. So go ahead, take a chance on cycling!
