In the Spirit

0

Huddled in a New York City neighborhood of warehouses and garages, the multi-story Spirit is part nightclub, part spa. During the day and into the evening, Mind, a spiritual wellness center, offers Eastern-influenced holistic treatments including a personal shamanic healing ceremony and sotai, a Japanese healing technique designed to restore the body’s energy balance. (I had the excellent Reflexology with Crystal Healing and Aromatherapy, a signature treatment created by wellness director Kudrat Kaur, who also runs Spirit’s Healthy Yoga studio.) After sunset, Soul, a raw food restaurant opens for dinner, and Spirit morphs into Body, the nightclub, with DJs spinning world music, house, and other rhythmic concoctions. Yes, it’s an odd blend, but it seems that spas and nightclubs do mix. The first Spirit, opened in Dublin in 2001, has proven to be such a success that the owners have plans to open seven worldwide.
