You have had that feeling… as if you already know the resolution to a perplexing problem. Or perhaps you intuit a certain direction or behavior without really ever having experienced past circumstances which could guide you. That gut feeling you are experiencing is called intuition.
Its instinctive knowledge, clarity and knowing. You have probably heard the phrase, “If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.” We often feel this awareness but often dismiss it. Your intuition doesn’t really come from your “gut”, it comes from your soul through subconscious awareness.
And its no nonsense! Top business leaders, military strategists, athletes, authentic psychics, holistic wellness practitioners and a myriad of people learn how to pay attention to that “little voice within”. The voice of intuition.
The voice is always there. The skill involves becoming aware of it, paying attention to it, honing it, and honoring it. It will require your patience and discernment.
Your sense of intuition is there to guide you–help keep your from harm, from making poor choices, as well as to steer you toward opportunities which may provide fruitful outcomes on many levels.
My first real BIG lesson in intuition occurred several years back as a recent graduate student and newcomer to the city of Chicago. True story: I was shopping in a newly developed neighborhood in the city and needed to get some cash. I saw an ATM in a strip mall and walked over to withdraw a few hundred dollars. And on my way there, I noticed two young men watching me from across the street. Then, I got THAT feeling…the feeling warning me that I should nix the idea of using the ATM.
Did I listen? Heck no. I brushed it off as being crazy and paranoid. Heck, it was a beautifully sunny afternoon, there were other people shopping, and the two suspicious looking guys were nowhere near me. So, of course, I turned my back and walked to the ATM and withdrew the money. Before I could even turn around, they knocked me down, grabbed my handbag and jumped into their (third partner’s) get-away car!. I yanked myself up from the ground and screaming “Help” proceeded to run after them. Obviously, they got away. End of story.
As I rethought this incident for many months later, I was more angry at myself for NOT following my intuition. I purposefully and deliberately chose to ignore what my inner sense of self, my instinct, was warning me. Ever since that attack, I am much more devoted to heeding my inner voice, that feeling. My intuition.
So how can intuition serve you? And how can you really learn to zero in on those intuitive feelings? Michelle Ogata is the creator of the Intuition Journal app and believes that consistent use of the app will help you to better access your intuition, strengthen it and learn how to best apply it in real life decision making or circumstances calling for that innate wisdom from your “gut”.
She also espouses working at quieting your mind (through meditation), asking yourself questions (perhaps about a decision you must make), assimilating clues, hunches, synchronistic patterns, and “signs” through writing and journaling, Once your mind is more free of needless chatter, you can more readily tap into your intuitive feelings and understand the messages behind them. Be persistent, be attentive, be willing.
Don’t dismiss intuition as gibberish. It’s your own real soul guidance at work to help you to make better decisions and better choices so you can live the fullest and best life possible!
So… “Trust your hunches. They are usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level.” ~Anonymous~ (a great Tweetable)
