Reiki (pronounced ‘ray-kee’) – Brought to the U.S. in the late 1930s, Reiki, which means “universal life energy” in Japanese, is a hands-on or no-touch technique for channeling this omnipresent energy to promote healing. During a session, the practitioner, or master, will place both hands, palms down, on or just above the client’s body. The treatment is profoundly calming, non-invasive and is reported to relieve pain and encourage spiritual growth. Though Reiki masters employ these techniques for everything from allergies to arthritis, Reiki is also used to address emotional and psychological blockages.
Craniosacral Therapy – Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle technique that helps bring the body’s rhythms back into their natural balance. CT works with the craniosacral system – the cranium, spine, and sacrum which are joined by a continuous membrane of fascia called dura mater, which houses the brain and central nervous system. Cerebrospinal fluid is pumped through the membranes of this system, creating a subtle pulse of six to twelve beats per minute. Through light manipulation of the bones of the skull and sacrum, Craniosacral therapists look for discrepancies in the rate, quality, symmetry, and amplitude of this rhythm and apply gentle pressure to realign skull bones and help cerebrospinal fluid circulate freely. In addition to releasing accumulated stress and promoting overall wellness, CT may help relieve chronic problems like migraines, TMJ, depression, and even dyslexia.
Jin Shin Jyutsu – A “physio-philosophy” of life, Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) employs a series of hand placements in various combinations to gently balance life energy, release deep tension, and restore harmonious flow along the energetic pathways, allowing the body to heal itself. Performed fully clothed on a padded massage table, the JSJ session begins with an analysis of the twelve energy pulses in your wrists. The practitioner’s hands are then applied in a sequence over twenty-six points on each side of the body where energy may become congested due to illness, trauma and/or negative thinking. Using light pressure, the therapist helps to redirect and realign energy, releasing bodily tension and resulting in profound relaxation. JSJ’s effects help to harmonize body, mind and spirit, facilitating the body’s own capacity for healing.
