Snow in the desert? Rock climbing? Anything’s possible in Las Vegas.
But there’s never been anything like the Aquavana™ at Canyon Ranch SpaClub.
I recently previewed this amazing new addition to the popular day spa at the Venetian Resort & Casino. Crews were putting finishing touches on the expansive new section that connects to The Palazzo, a 50-story tower of suites, shops, and restaurants that recently opened.
Guided through a circuit of thermal baths, saunas, showers, and steam, you encounter the snow cave. Fresh powder snow falls gently, refreshing your skin. Twinkling lights suggest an aurora borealis; cool air wafts from an igloo. And that’s just the beginning of your spa treatment.
Building a better spa, said Canyon Ranch Vice President W. Robert Smith, challenged his creative and technical understanding of being in Las Vegas. Typically, spa-goers come for three hours to relax and recharge. So the veteran head of design and development went abroad for new ideas. The European-inspired suite of multi-sensory thermal experiences is the result, scheduled to be fully operational in June.
Guided by a bath concierge (the American equivalent of German badermeister), you progress through:
• The Wave Room, simulating the look, smell and feel of breaking waves under a domed canopy.
• The Salt Grotto, where sea air washes over heated benches and intimate seating niches that surround a fountain bubbling over natural salt rocks.
• The Crystal Steam Room- A cleansing aromatic steam environment with a large central crystal to inspire and focus meditation.
• Rain – Invigorating, multi-sensory cooling showers.
• Sunarium and Finnish Sauna – A classic dry-heat sauna environment lit by colored light refracted by crystals.
• Laconium – An herbal-infused steam room.
• HydroSpa – A variety of massage fountains that provide gentle massage.
• Igloo – Cool air and three atmospheric experiences enhanced by twinkling fiber optics.
• Snow Cave – Fresh powder snow falls gently from the ceiling.
After the Aquavana adventure, relax in the co-ed Conservatory. Entering from the Palazzo, you encounter the Canyon Ranch Grill, a new 100-seat spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Offering creative omelets and wraps, pancakes, soups and salads, fresh fish and chicken dishes, vegetarian fare, and homemade desserts, the menu includes favorites from the original Canyon Ranch in Arizona as well as its Vegas outpost in the Venetian. Only here you can socialize over drinks made with organic spirits and juices.
Adding atmosphere and services, this high-ceiling space includes a private bridal and barber suite, sure to be popular for wedding parties. New locker rooms and a salon for hair and nail treatments have windows looking out on the resort garden and swimming pool. A new fitness center has the latest TechnoGym cardio and strength-training equipment.
And there’s still a rock-climbing wall in the original part of the SpaClub.
The best part: a $35 day pass provides access to the Aquavana and 160 spa services. It’s a great change of pace, and easy on the pocketbook.
