Vote Yes for the Non-toxic Nail Treatments

In the spirit of NO (GMO’s) and YES on 37 (We want to know!) here’s a trend worth following today – No formaldehyde, toluene or phthalates!

A manicure and pedicure might be a MUST for your beauty routine, but are you informed of all the nail salon health risks?

The latest trend for safe nail care is gel nail polish, which is adding revenue to a six billion dollar nail industry. The results can be amazing and your nails look like gemstones. The gel nail polish is set or cured with ultraviolet light. You have to put your hands under this light for several minutes after each color coat. This type of light can cause skin cancer. The most important thing is to be AWARE.

Some great products to try out are:

Zoya Nail Polish – Nail salon owner and aesthetician Zoya Reyzis who, by necessity. created a healthier and more durable polish when pregnant in 1984. It is highly rated for soon-to-be-moms and all women who wish to avoid toxic chemicals in beauty products.

Hopscotch Kids WaterColors – If you are in search of a non-toxic, eco-friendly alternative to solvent-based nail polish. This water based formula is void of harsh, yucky chemicals that stink, and an extra star because they also condition the nails. It’s not only good for your kids, but for the earth, too.

My favorite: Shellac – Unbelieveable – no dry time, flawless mirror finish, stays on for over 14 days (try 3 weeks for me) and removes in 10 minutes, while strengthening your nails. Try once and you’ll never do anything else!

In preparation for a long sojourn to Sedona, Arizona, I visited Plush Beauty Bar in West Hollywood, California. The allure was because it advertised that it provided nail and waxing in a “non-toxic, high quality, low-fume service in a child friendly environment.” At first glance, it did not have the normal nail salon smell, and in the far right corner, there was a gated area for little ones to romp around while mommy got pampered to perfection.  The professional atmosphere was conducive to relaxing and trusting the nail artist to choose the perfect color and style to match you. The result was a CND Shellac long-wearing gel polish that was so smooth and iridescent, with a dusted overlay of sparkles that rivaled any gemstone! If you want to have nails that look like golden opals, this is the place to get it done! You are guaranteed compliments, even the toniest fashionistas will stop and ask you about your gorgeous nails.

No wonder the salon was voted “Best Salon” in West LA on TV Guides Fashion Team.
