Do you have a food sensitivity? Or does someone in your family? Chances are, you’re on an elimination diet and not loving it. Did you know that with some correct guidance you might be able to go back to eating and loving food? Here are five mistakes you might be making:
1. Your Elimination Diet May Not Be Sustainable. Returning to my one of my yoga students, her biggest concern was that she wasn’t willing to do an elimination diet for long-term. She loved wheat; she loved dairy. Even knowing it might make her feel better to take those foods out of her diet, she resisted. But when she realized it was only temporary, her gusto returned. There is the possibility of re-introduction after your gut heals.
2. We can’t just eliminate. When the gut is inflamed our immune system and our immune response gets hampered. We have to heal the gut to heal food intolerances.
3. Eliminating foods may not help. If you have an inflamed gut, chances are your list of foods that make it worse will just continue to increase.
4. It’s not going to be quick. This is a huge bummer for those that want to just move back to regular living. But if you’ve had 30+ years of inflammation, it might take some time to return to normal.
5. Not reaching out. Instead of reading the latest diet fad book, try finding an integrative health specialist who can help you navigate the inflammatory response you’re dealing with. They’ll know what to cut out, when to re-introduce and everything to manage in between.
Be good to your gut and the rest will fall into place, that’s the moral of this story!
