Be soft on yourself. As a yoga teacher, I feel like I share this message with my students all the time. Most of us are very good at being harsh to ourselves, but not very good at just indulging and living fully. Give yourself permission to indulge on occasion and feel deserving. You are. Indulgence comes in many forms; taking a restorative yoga class, spending time with a good book and some tea, or enjoying a decadent dessert.
Step outside. Getting outside has some of the greatest overall benefits for your health, including increasing your overall sense of connection as well as your immunity.
Go for 80 percent. The 80/20 rule for dieting works. It also works for your overall satiety. Try eating until you’re 80 percent full and then stop. You’ll feel better and your body won’t have to work as hard to process what you’ve eaten.
Take a tea break. This is a new one for me. I’ve always been a coffee girl. But I’ve found setting aside time to make tea and enjoy it in the afternoons, sets me up for a more productive and patient evening.
Try HIIT. Are you familiar with High Intensity Interval Training? If not, go pick up any issue of Fitness, Self, or Health and you’ll find a practice you can try at home. Not only is HIIT an excellent workout, but it burns more fat in less time. Plus its fun!
Sleep Better. You know you need more sleep but do you know what’s keeping you from sleeping well? It could be when and what you’re eating or drinking before bed, or what you’re watching or doing too. At least one hour before you go to bed, stop watching anything electronic, and at least 2 hours before bed, stop eating or drinking. Give your body the ability to focus on rest instead of processing thoughts or digestion and see if you feel more rested when you wake up.
