Chances are we don’t all go around singing Bruno Mar’s song, “Beautiful Just the Way You Are,” but having a happy soundtrack with such uplifting lyrics could help many women out.
An Independent Dove research study that was recently performed shows astonishing results.
• 4% of women around the world would describe themselves as beautiful
• 72% of young women feel “tremendous” pressure to be beautiful
• 54% of them agree that when it comes to how they look, they are their own worst beauty critics
These numbers are alarming of course for anyone to read, but the fact is many women do not like how they look. The real impact is on an emotionally level.
We know that the conversations we sometimes have inside our head can be nasty. This internal emotional abuse will often lead to self-sabotage, addictions, depression or even eating disorders which all lead to self-hate and isolation.
But learning to shift the conversation to a happier state is one of the first steps to building stronger self-esteem. What we say and do has a big impact on those around us. Being a role model for younger women can help them recognize that there is no one body shape or size that fits all.
Many celebrities, like Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah, Beyoncé and the First Lady are joining forces to help raise awareness for young women and improving their self-esteem.
Society puts a lot of pressure on feeling and looking perfect, but no one is perfect and recognizing that will help us feel more connected to each other.
Doctor Feldmanis, a cosmetic Dentist in Eugene OR, says “Having a beautiful smile is about feeling good about yourself and loving who you are…self-confidence starts from within.”
