Body Break Up – Why Getting Over an Ex Takes Time

0

Your body goes through a lot during a breakup. Of course your emotions can run off the deep end, but getting dumped ignites a series of reactions in our bodies that ends up igniting a full-body blow. Love really can hurt. Here is the body breakdown on heartbreak.

Stomach

Your stomach will feel the heat of a breakup because of all the stress you carry around. The stressed-out nervous system will send signals to your digestive system to slow down. Your stomach will hurt and you may have zero appetite. This is why some  women lose weight during a break up.

Skin

A broken heart is often partnered with a dose of acne. This is because of the cortisol. It’s triggers a pore clogging oily build up that can show up on the face. Sometimes the foods we turn to such as ice cream, cookies and sugary snacks can trigger acne episodes as well.

Brain

During a breakup the brain feels it the most. Anything can trigger the reactions. An old photo of the two of you, a place you use to frequent often, the smell of their old college shirt. It’s like clockwork, you are reminded of what was, and all of a sudden the snarly pit in your stomach sets in. The problem is the moment you think of this person, see a photo etc, blood rushes to your face and up to your brain. Inevitable the blood will swoosh into your brains pleasure center making it impossible to try to get over your ex.

Your Teeth

Don’t tell your dentist you are going through a break up. Although chances are they can probably tell. When we go through break ups we tend to let the emotions get the best of us. All of the extra crying can cause a dry mouth, which reduces the salvia flow in the mouth. Less salvia flow means a potential for more cavities. We also fall into the rut of eating more sugary foods because the immediate gratification helps us feel better in the moment. But the food can cause bacteria build up on your teeth and eventually lead to more cavities and tooth decay.

Dr. Teasdale, a Dentist in Portland OR, says that drinking water durring a breakup is one of the best things you can do for your health. It can help remove build up on your teeth, and clean out the toxins in your pores. If you are going through a break up it is important to take it easy on your mind and body. Recognize that your heart isn’t just going through a lot but your entire body is feeling the effects of the love loss. Just remember everything always works out in the end, and you will find new and even better love.
