2017 was busy with new product launches, and the clean and green beauty industry truly took off. We had multitasking beauty products, the real introduction to probiotic skincare and not forgetting a personal favorite, lots of vegan friendly make-up! But this year is wielding a lot more trends when it comes to the world of beauty, and I’m here to tell you about 8 of my personal faves! We promise you this, the green beauty world is growing and it’s not slowing down in 2018.

1. Spiritually-INfused Beauty

In 2017, we dipped our toes into the pool of inner wellness, and 2018 is really set to embrace it fully. Instead of choosing products to slather on our faces simply to care for our skin, we’ll also be paying special attention to the ways in which they can bring inner wellness to our body, too. Our beauty products are going to have a ‘spiritual’ element to them, taking inspiration from the healing powers of Ayurveda and crystal healing. And not only will they be wonderful for the overall health of our skin, they will also bring with them a sense of balance, calmness and even work to enhance the quality of our sleep.

Brands like Själ Kashmir offer hair masks containing blue sapphire that will increase the production of relaxing melatonin, being a real treat for both your hair and your mood. People for Plants have created a garnet-infused facial scrub that works to cleanse, detox and energize. Shiva Rose is helping to open your third eye with a little help from their Blue Crystal Eye Cream, and Linfox have crafted a mystic awakening via a refreshing mist that utilizes amethyst crystals, designed to release energy.

If you can buy just one product, make it this.

2. Gender Neutral Beauty

While it’s nothing new for fragrances to be ‘unisex,’ this year we’re set to find many more products that target both male and female skin in the same product. Yep, we’re talking gender neutral products. Just think, girls, someday soon we could live in a world where we don’t have to go halfsies in our bathrooms … we can all share!

Brands like Løre Originals are already banishing sex-specific options and targeting their hair care products for both genders. Not to mention both Aesop and Grown Alchemist are ahead of the game creating products that are more focused on what the products do than for who they’re targeting. Panacea Skincare is the new kid on the block not to be overlooked.  They are addressing both gender neutrality and condensing the traditional 10 steps for Korean beauty in one fell swoop.  Context is the perfect range for those looking for minimalist packaging, and a range that caters to both male and female.

3. PLantable & refillable Packaging

It’s a huge step to make by choosing beauty products that are as clean as possible and free of chemicals. Not only are they bad for our health but they’re also terrible for our planet, too. But if you’re taking the time and effort to purchase clean, ethical beauty products, then you want to know that the packaging is environmentally friendly, too, right? Well, 2018 is all about those products that have packaging that is not only friendly to our environment, but can also give a little something back to it by being biodegradable.

Pangea Organics is a real game changer using plantable packaging; this means their fiber-based material is not only biodegradable, but it can be replanted back into the earth. For example, the packaging for their soaps are embedded with either herbs or wildflower seeds and after a short soak, can be planted into soil. My favorite of all is Kjaer Weis, who creates refillable packaging for their products. So once your mascara has run out, simply return it to the store and have it refilled, so one product really will last you a lifetime. Their mascara was also the winner of our Earth Day Beauty Awards last year.

If you can buy just one product, make it this.

4. K-Beauty

Korean skincare (K-Beauty) grew in popularity in 2017, and is set to be even bigger in 2018 with people looking to seriously clean up their skin act. There are 10 stages to a K-Beauty regime, although not all have to be done every day and night. It starts with an oil cleanser and then moves on to a water based cleanser. Then you exfoliate and tone before essence, treatment and sheet masks. It’s then finished off with eye creams, moisturizer and sun protection. It may seem time consuming, but once your skin starts truly glowing, you won’t care about how many steps it takes.

Soko Glam is an online store that sells all Korean approved skincare and beauty products, and can be a great place to shop if you’re truly looking to embrace a K-Beauty regime in 2018. The Konjac Sponge Co is well known for their range of sponges, and using a bamboo infused sponge is great for both the deep cleansing and exfoliating steps of this regime. Julep is set to be a huge staple in skincare this year with many already hailing it as a hero product.

5. multi-tasking Masks

Who doesn’t love a face mask? Well, many beauty brands are branching out in 2018 and face masks are about to get very sophisticated! We will even begin to see masks for other areas other than the face, such as chest, arms and even breasts.

The Rose Jasminium Instant Detox Face Mask by Alteya Organics is Bulgarian and badass! With pink clay, hyaluronic acid, rose and jasmine extracts, it leaves skin fresh and super soft, without stripping the moisture. Karuna is targeting our hands, which suffer greatly during the colder months, and their Hand Mask is the perfect treat to soothe hands back to health. And more, Karuna’s introducing their serum-infused Sheet Masks so you can skip a step in your regular regimen.  For those that can’t seem to find the extra morning minutes, there’s the cleanser-mask hybrids that take the time – and faff – out of your morning regime. Try Liz Earle’s Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser next time you have a short window in the shower but need full spa treatment vibe on your skin.

6. Skin care Supplements

In 2017 we dabbled with collagen supplements to keep us all looking youthful and glowing, but 2018 is all about introducing supplements into our skincare.

Lumity has created an anti-aging supplement that you take both day and night, and which works around the clock to target both health and vitality. By popping these supplements, you could see a boost in the health of your skin, hair and nails. WelleCo has targeted our wellness and vitality through The Super Elixir alkalizing greens supplement. It’s packed with 45 key ingredients that will help you to have beautiful skin from the inside out. Hum Nutrition steps up their game and brings actual Nutritionists to the table. You take the genius Hum quiz and discover vitamins & supplements for flawless skin, fuller hair and a healthy beautiful body.

7. Bespoke Beauty

We saw 2017 dabble with bespoke beauty, but its set to be huge this year with so many more people focused on finding the perfect beauty products that are targeted for them specifically. Think make-up that has been created using computer-generated prescriptions to skincare that has been made with a DNA analysis. This is one trend that proves that one size no longer fits all; it’s all about that personal touch.

Eyeko has created a three-step program that allows you to design your very own mascara. You have full control over the formula and the brush, and even what type of effect you want the mascara to have on your lashes. Inner-Soul allows you to create a 100% natural and organic bespoke facial oil from the comfort of your own home. The four-part process analyzes your skin’s unique age, color, tone and behavior and tailors this information to provide a range of quality natural ingredients that will be used to create a product specifically designed for you.

8. Cannabis Skincare

While this one may cause a tad controversy, the legalization of marijuana in many states has led to research on the positive effects it can have on the body, having been widely celebrated for its medicinal properties for some time now. Something that was uncovered during research, and which didn’t surprise many, was how calming and anti-inflammatory certain cannabinoids can be on the skin. Namely, hemp. So, don’t be shocked yourself when you see a rise in cannabis-infused skincare, you have been alerted.

Dr. Bronner’s is a much loved brand, and their Organic Shaving Soap is infused with hemp oil, which is derived from a variety of the cannabis sativa plant grown for industrial (not drug) use. The Wonder Seed is a favorite brand that raves about the benefits of hemp seed oil and have created a Hemp Facial Cream which helps to ease irritated skin via vitamins, amino acids and essential minerals.
