Just because Turkey Day is over doesn’t mean that you need to keep overeating. Although this time of the year is for family, friends and laughter, it’s also good for tasting food. Many of us fall victim to overeating and use the holidays as an excuse to eat whatever we want, whenever we want. It’s important to recognize that this habit is not healthy for your overall well-being. Instead these tips can help you have a guilt-free holiday season .
Allow Yourself One Day to Overeat
Many people use this time of year to overindulge. Some act as if every day is a holiday during this time of year. Which means that they let all their food guidelines go out the window. People don’t usually pay attention to what they put in their mouth, which can lead to added weight on the body. Instead focus on a food plan and stick to three square meals a day. Allow yourself one day a week where you can eat whatever you desire.
Avoid Snacking
Rather than eating snacks in between meals that are filled with fat and sugar, simply choose healthy snacks. If you must have snacks in between meals pick apples, pears or fresh fruit.
Avoid Liquid Calories
This time of year, the majority of us get our calories from liquids. Champagne cocktails, eggnog, holiday coffee, coffee drinks and creamers, the list goes on. We don’t even realize that our calories are contributing to our waistline. Instead put yourself on a no liquid calorie diet detox and just have water. You can flavor your water with a dash of flavor such as peppermint, lavender, winter mint, lemon or lime.
Pick a New Flavor
People who brush their teeth after every single meal have proven to be less hungry and eat less than those who do not. New toothpaste flavors are making their way to the market with fun holiday flavors, such as peppermint, winter mint, and even cinnamon. You can enjoy brushing your teeth by simply finding a new toothbrush and toothpaste flavor.
People who brush their teeth after every meal, often eat fewer sweets and they do not overeat during the holiday time.
Dr. Nathan Austria, a dentist at Bethany Family Dental, a Dentist in Bethany OR suggests packing a travel size toothbrush to bring to holiday events. This will ensure that you’re taking care of your teeth. You will lose weight when you are more considerate about what you put in your mouth.
