How to Know When it’s Time to Change Careers

0

The days of staying in one job for an entire lifetime have pretty much come and gone. In today’s job market, jobseekers are looking for a more rewarding career. Whether you’re currently in a position or looking for a new full-time position, there are certain signs to look for when you know it’s time to change careers.

When you get bored

If you feel bored and you’re no longer challenged at work it is a good indication that it’s time to move on. Sometimes the work and projects that used to bring you joy no longer do. When this happens you can talk to your boss and let them know that you are no longer challenged and you’d like more responsibility, request to be moved to a different department or move to a different project. If you’re going to share with your boss, they will listen to your demands and requests and assist you properly.

However, there might not be another position open and it might be time to leave the company. If this is the case maybe it’s time for you to get clear about what you really want.

You have a new boss

Maybe you have a new boss and everything’s changed. Sometimes when you’re working in a company a new boss comes in and all of a sudden the work environment changes. You may have been comfortable with the way you worked with your old boss, but the new boss has different standards, different demands or requirements.

Whatever the case, it’s important to consistently stay on top of your work and focus on doing the job well. You can look for other work in the evening and prepare yourself for transition out of the company. There’s no reason you should stay in a situation that does not provide you growth opportunity or enjoyment.

If you keep playing hooky or calling in sick to your current job

Chances are you’re not enjoying your workday if you call in sick, when you are not really sick. If your work is more fulfilling, and you enjoy doing it, then calling in sick is not something you would consider doing.

You daydream often

If you’re feeling that it is time for a career transition and a big change is in order, give yourself time to daydream. Where your mind wanders too is often where your heart is and you can find the things that bring you the most joy in the daydreams. Use your imagination to create your perfect life. Giving yourself time daily to think about what you want in life, and you will get more clarity and focus.

Smile

When you’re feeling frustrated and stressed out the best thing to do is to be in the moment and simply look at the light hearted side of it. Give yourself time to appreciate the moment and smile. Smiling is the gateway to happiness. If you worry about the future, smiling will bring you back to the moment. Gently smiling and appreciate what you do have. Some people are afraid to smile because they don’t like their smile.

Dr. Jorgensen, a General Dentist in Vancouver, Washington says that many people don’t smile because they are insecure about their teeth. If you are insecure about your smile or you have bad breath your dentist can help
