When guests come to the SpaHalekulani at the internationally acclaimed Halekulani Resort in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, they are welcomed with love. It’s a feeling more like you have stepped into a hug in heaven rather than a spa.
Resting on five acres of lush gardens facing the healing mecca, Gray’s Beach, Halekulani means house benefitting heaven. On this property, every detail lives up to its precious name. The spa staff wrapped me in their warm spirit and the genuine feeling of gracious Hawaiian hospitality.
The welcome area of this spa is overlooks the property’s courtyard; with tropical birds singing in your ear, it’s hard not to feel like a princess. The main lounge area is outside, but is intimate and cozy, and I relaxed as I lounged back in my wood recliner. I was offered fresh water as my therapist greeted me. She encouraged me to relax as she massaged my feet and soothed my skin. She explained, “The feet are always forgotten, but they carry us in this world, we always start with the feet to honor each guest.” My soul is anchored in this moment as I relax into serenity.
Next to me is an array of oils, fresh flowers, and the scent of the fresh tropical breeze wafts in. Following this wonderful greeting, I was led to my private suite to prepare for my signature treatment.
One of the most unique treatments at this spa is the Taurumi Tahitian Massage which combines invigorating techniques to awaken the senses, using oil of mono¯. This massage oil is custom blended in Tahiti and it provides nourishing and moisturizing virtues to the body.
Grounded in ritual, the Taurumi massage is unique in its focus as it addresses different “energy lines” of the body. It can help prevent and treat physical and spiritual pains by extracting the negative energies of your body.
The focus is to facilitate the transfer of energy in the entire body, or the “Mana”. The Tahu’a (the practitioner of this technique) is sometimes compared to a faith healer or a magnetizer due to her extraordinary practices.
It is apparent that this award-winning spa has a commitment to harmoniously restore every guest’s mind, body, and spirit. SpaHalekulani not only heals your body, but when I was done I felt as if I had had a spiritual and emotionally healing as well. True transformation happens here.
After my treatment I am invited to an evening sunset meditation led by the on site activities director. This experience allowed my mind to ascend into further relaxation as I mentally evolved to new heights.
There is an energetic presence on the property that aids in the soul’s healing. Here at Halekulani, ritual is combined with warm love and happiness is pursued. My soul felt rejuvenated and I felt complete.
I returned to my Diamond Head Ocean front guest suite which was designed specifically around the iconic vista of the Diamond Head crater. Each room on property breathes the elegance that is the signature design philosophy of the resort. The interiors are saturated in the resort’s signature “seven shades of white,” Which was selected to allow the elements of the room to frame the views, rather than compete with them. This idea is pure genius, as it inspires serenity and relaxation, and reminds guests that heaven can happen on earth.
