Oxygen Facial

By Melissa Williams

In alpine spas, oxygen has been on the menu for quite some time. But it has only been over the last few years that oxygen has popped up in such low-altitude locales as NYC. One such spa, Bliss offers a triple oxygen facial as well as an oxygen spray. Back at altitude, we spoke to Eva Spector-Avjean, Lead Esthetician at the St. Julien Hotel and Spa in Boulder, Colorado, for her input on oxygen therapies.

1. Why should we choose oxygen therapy?

For the skin to function properly it must have an adequate supply of oxygen. As we age the oxygen levels decline. The decrease in oxygen can result in lack of collagen synthesis causing premature aging. It can also result in impaired cell renewal causing dull, rough & hyper-pigmented (age spots) skin. Oxygen is important in helping to maintain healthy tissues & acts as a catalyst for most cellular functions, including collagen production & cellular detoxification.

2. What benefits have you seen in your clients?

Our clients love this treatment! They say that they continue to see results even up to 2 weeks after the treatment. This is because the oxygen forces product down into the dermal layers. Clients love the radiant glow that this treatment provides. As with any treatment, you will see maximum results with multiple visits. Skin cells regenerate every 28 days so if you are looking for the best results once a month is ideal. I find that 4 times a year (seasonal) works well for most.
