Make Pumpkin Purée

Pumpkin purée is the best use for the entire fleshy gob inside of your pumpkin. Best of all it is easy to create. Start by cutting the pumpkin in half down the middle. Scoop out all of the seeds including the guts, then set them aside for later.

The next step is to put your pumpkin facing cut-side down on to a baking dish. Add a cup of water, then bake for 90 minutes or make sure the flesh is tender. Next, scoop out the orange flesh and puree in a food processor.

Now you have your pumpkin purée, you can use it in all your favorite pumpkin recipes, we put it in pies to pancakes. If you have any extra it can be stored in the freezer for several months. Time to ditch all that canned pumpkin when Thanksgiving rolls around.

Pumpkins are wonderful for your skin. They are loaded with zinc and vitamins A, C and E, which makes pumpkin purée healthy for your body as well. Our favorite use of the leftovers is to create a facemask. It is healthy for you as a topical treatment and you can apply it to the skin directly. Here is one of our favorite DIY recipes for a beauty facemask.

Take five teaspoons of pumpkin purée plus three teaspoons of brown sugar. The brown sugar will naturally exfoliate your skin add a splash of milk.

Mix or blend it all together, and then apply to your face. Do this in circular motions; try to avoid the eye area. Relax for about 20 minutes, this will allow all that pumpkin goodness to seep into your skin. Plus it smells delicious, too!

Make a Milkshake

Some of that extra pumpkin purée can be a tasty milkshake for your and the kids. Combine two scoops of dairy free coconut ice cream, a half-cup of almond milk, soy milk or milk of choice, three tablespoons of pumpkin purée and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Put all the ingredients in a blender. This treat is fun and the pumpkin mixed with calcium can actually help improve your bone health.
