Surf workouts (and similar spinoffs) are fast becoming a new wellness travel genre. Surfset Fitness leads the way in wellness, thanks to the company’s segment on SharkTank. Spa and wellness centers across the globe are incorporating surf-centric workouts by offering surf-simulating fitness classes and wave-simulating surfing parks. It’s become so popular it’s expanded to 160 countries from the North Shore to the North Sea. There’s a wide range of offerings, including the cool surf + wellness property (blending spa and wellness offerings with surfing/surf classes) available at every price point.
Working out with a wave and a smile
Surfing workouts are found in places such as Hotel Komune Bali, which marries destination spas with surfing and paddle boarding lessons at one of Hawaii’s famed wave breaks. SurfSet Fitness has expanded to 250 studios in 20 countries and plans to continue their reach. In addition to fitness classes, we are seeing an explosion of all-female surf retreats. This includes the premier Las Olas Surf Safaris in Mexico. Since 1997, Las Olas has been introducing women to the joy of surfing, and many other companies have followed suit.
There are now many women’s surf camps and retreats offering some of the best surf workouts you can find. In the United States, check out Surfer Girls in San Diego. Puerto Rico is rebuilding and offers Samatahiti, a little piece of paradise offering yoga, stand up paddle board (SUP) yoga, and surfing retreats at an eco-friendly retreat center. Australia has a myriad of offerings. Not much of a surprise considering Australia hosts some of the most favored and dreamed of locations to surf on earth. Pam Burridge, the 1990 ASP World Champion, has a laid-back surf and yoga retreat center. She offers a supportive and encouraging environment to help women get more proficient and just have an overall memorable experience. For more information, check out Pam’s website for deets.
