Nina Smiley, a fourth-generation family member of the Mohonk Mountain House in New York’s Hudson Valley region, understands that most people are “too busy to meditate.” As a result, she teaches guests how to integrate simple three-minute meditation techniques throughout the day. At Kohler Waters Spa in Kohler, Wisconsin, spa-goers want to learn how to take a nap. Says Jean Kolb, Kohler’s director of wellness business, “Sleep deprivation is becoming an epidemic in the U.S., so we’ve built sleep time into treatments to let guests catch a few winks. Our bodies are becoming like computers, and unfortunately, the off button doesn’t always get used.
